About HomeCalcKit

HomeCalcKit is a small, independent collection of free home improvement calculators, built for DIYers who want to buy the right amount of materials the first time.

Why We Built This

Most DIY projects do not fail because the work is too hard — they stall because the numbers were wrong. A paint job stops with one bare wall; a tile floor ends with a mismatched reorder; a concrete pour runs dry with the mixer still running. The formulas behind material estimating are simple, but the details — waste allowances, coverage rates, mortar joints, bag yields — are exactly where mistakes happen.

Each calculator on this site uses the same formulas contractors and estimators use, with the defaults set to real product specifications and standard building practice. Every result includes a waste allowance and rounds up to whole containers, because you cannot buy 1.9 gallons of paint or half a sheet of drywall.

How We Work

Every calculator runs entirely in your browser. Your measurements are never uploaded, stored or shared — enter a number, get a result, close the tab, and nothing remains. There is no account to create and nothing to download.

We explain the math on every page, because a calculator you trust is one whose math you can check. Each tool page includes the full formula, a worked example, and the answers to the questions DIYers ask most.

A Note on Estimates

All results on this site are estimates for planning and budgeting. Real-world conditions — rough surfaces, irregular rooms, material defects, building code differences — change the numbers. Always confirm quantities with a professional or your local building department before purchase, and for structural work like stairs and decks, follow your local building code.
